An Adminisharive Ordinance
WHEREAS, Section 12.12.1 of the City Charter provides that upon receipt of a notice of vacancy for the position of Fire Chief,
the Council shall establish, by ordinance, minimum qualifications for such vacant posidon; and
WHEREAS, [he adminis[ration has given written notice of a vacancy in [he position of Fire Chief to the City Council; now,
therefore
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1
That the minimum qualifications for candidates for the vacancy of Fire Chief shal] be as follows:
A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Business Administration, Public AdministraUOn or a closely related field is
required. In addition to the required education, applicants must have been apoointed a District Chief or above. Such
command level experience shall include the azeas of fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention, fire investigations,
emergency medica] services, hazazdous materials, management mformation systems, and emergency response planning
and exercise using an all hazazds approach. Experience working in a unionized environment and experience working in
an organization that provides advanced life suppon services is preferred. A Master's Degree in one of the
aforementioned fields is desirable.
Section 2
That this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30) days from and afrer passage, approva] and publication.

Cluef, the Council shall establisky by ordinance, minimum qualifications for such vacant posirion; and
Whereas, the administrarion has given written norice of a vacancy in the posirion of Fire Chief to the Ciry Council,
now, therefore

That the minunum qualificarions for candidates for the vacancy of Fire Cluef shall be as follows:
A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Business Administrarion, Public Adnilius4ation or a closely related field is
reauired. In addition to the reauired educarion, for internal City of Saint Paul Fire Deparhnent applicants, must
haye been appointed as a District Chief or above. For all other applicants, in addition to the required education,
must have three vears °°a� of full rime paid multi-company coimnand level experience as a Chief Officer
