6 VJhereas, Section 12.12.1 of the Ciry Charter provides that upon receipt of a nofice of acancy for the position of Fire Chief, the Council

That the minimum qualificarions for candidates for

Chief shatl be as foliows:
" A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Business A nistration, Pubfic Administration or a closely related field, and
five yeazs of full time paid multi-company comm level experience as a Chief O�cer at the districWattalion ]evel or above aze
required. Such command level experience shall ' clude the azeas of fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention, fue investigations,
emergency medical services, hazardous mater' s, management information systems, and emergency response planning and �ercise
using an all hazards approach. A Master's egree in one of the aforemenfioned fields is desirable. "

There is a vacancy for the posirion of Fire Chief. The City Charter provides that when such a vacancy exists the
Council must establish minimum qualificafions for the vacancy. This action fulfills this duty.
