SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA
RECOGNIZING WAYNE WITTMAN
ON THE CELEBRATION OF ATS SO BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Wayne Wittman was born on September ll, 1929 with a spirit of service and compassion that has been the
hallmark of his life; and,
WHEREAS, as a young man, Wayne was greatly influenced by his service in the US Navy Hospital Corps, leading him to
become a charter member of the Veterans for Peace organization and an advocate for justice and peace in EI Salvador and
throu�out the world; and,
WHEREAS, for 25 years, Wayne has devotedty served Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the East Side of Saint Pau] as an
ordained deacon, sharing his deep faith and spirituality with his entue faith community; and,
WHEREpS, Wayne's abiding sense of integrity and equity has led to years of advocacy and involvement in support of the
disability community, the labor movement, and the DFL Party; and,
WHEREAS, Wayne has been committed to the betterment of Saint Paul, giving of his time and talents to the Saint Paul
Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities; the Police Civilian Review Commission; the Saint Paul SchooPs Community
Education and City-wide Budget Committees; the Labor Community Services Committee; and the United Way's Fund Drive;
and,
WHEREAS, Wayne has come to be known as the conscience of many elected officials—and doing anything that might
disappoint him is not worth the guilt and shame that would naturally follow; and,
WHEREAS, Wayne's love, dedication ac�d devotion to his wife Joan, his five childxen and eleven grandchildren is an inspuation
and worthy of emulation; and,
WHEREAS, Wayne has taught us, by his example, how to behave as complete, engaged and righteous people;
NOV✓, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council congratulates Way�e Wittman on the celebration of
his 80`" birthday, and encourages all residents to applaud his many achievements on behalf of Saint Pau] and throughout the
world.
