History: The azea in question has a history of flooding and ensuing property damage during episodes of excessive rainfall. On July 1, 1997, with the ground already neaz the saturation point, the azea was subjected to a"hundred yeazs storm", which inundated the properties and caused extensive damage to improvements. Two of the houses were rendered inhabitable and have been condemned. Action: Representatives of the community approached the City with a request for relief, specifically asking that the City purchase those properties that were most wlnerable to flooding. A task force, after considering available options, recommended that the City purchase the properties of owners wishing to sell and level them to create a dry pond, which would help to alleviate subsequent flooding for adjacent areas. History: The azea in question has a history of flooding and ensuing property damage during episodes of excessive rainfall. On July 1, 1997, with the ground already neaz the saturation point, the azea was subjected to a"hundred yeazs storm", which inundated the properties and caused extensive damage to improvements. Two of the houses were rendered inhabitable and have been condemned. Action: Representatives of the community approached the City with a request for relief, specifically asking that the City purchase those properties that were most wlnerable to flooding. A task force, after considering available options, recommended that the City purchase the properties of owners wishing to sell and level them to create a dry pond, which would help to alleviate subsequent flooding for adjacent areas.
