1 WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Horticultural Society and Minnesota Green Program have selected the Riverview
2 Gazden Club's Garden of Good Hearts — Jazdin de Corazones Caandes — to receive the Minnesota Green Awazd for
3 excellence in community gazdening, one of only six awazds granted statewide; and
4 WHEREAS, the Garden of Good Hearts, at West Congress and South Wabasha streets, was selected as the most
5 innovative and successful community greening project actively involving volunteers in the State of Minnesota; and
6 WHEREAS, the idea for the Gazden of Good Hearts was conceived by members of the Riverview Gazden Club as a
7 gateway to the West Side and was dedicated in October 1993; and
8 WHEREAS, the Gazden of Good Hearts was featured on the 1998 Healing Gazden Tour by the Center for Victims of
9 Torture, and also the 1998 Twin City Community Gazden Tour of the Sustainable Resources Urban Lands Program; and
10 WHEREAS, Ella Thayer, secretary to Wazd 4 City Councilmember Jay Benanav, has worked tirelessly and selflessly to
11 coordinate volunteers to perForm all aspects of planting garden management and special event planning at the Gazden of
12 Good Hearts,
13 NOW TFiEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Saint Paul recognizes the Gazden of Good Hearts
14 and the Riverview Gazden Club for its efforts to involve the lazger community in maintaining a beautiful and sustainable
15 place on Saint Paul's West Side.
