The Council of the City of Saint Paul has conducted a pubMc hearing upon the
above improvement, due notice thereof having been given as prescribed by the City
Charter; and
WHEREAS, The Council has heard a11 persons, objections and recommendations
pertaining to said proposed improvement and has fully considered the same; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Saint Pau1 does hereby order that the
above-described improvement be made, and the proper City of£icers are hereby directed
and authorized to proceed with the improvement; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon the completion of said improvement, the proper City
o�ficers shall calculate all expenses incurred therein and shall report the same to

REPORT PREPARED June 30, 1997
Project
The purpose of this project is to expand the decorative, historic lighting and tree landscaping
around Landmark Center and thereby benefit the pedestrian environment.
initiating Action
The project was initiated by Minnesota Landmarks, successfuily acquiring funding in the 1996
Cultural STAR program cycle (project �550-96CG).
Existing Conditions
At present there are 9 green ash trees and six giobe-style light units at various focations around
the buifding. There are sidewalk areas around the building, particuiarly on ihe northern haif of
the area that wouid benefit from piantings and more Iighting.
Proposed improvements
It is proposed to piant at feast nine trees in the projeci area. Lighting wilf be either three- or
five-globes units on decorative iantern type poles. Lighting design and tree species wiN be
consistent with nearby areas.
Two informationai kiosks wilf be relocated to this area as part of this project.

House Building in the City of Saint Paul.

Ia the Matter of Landmark center streetscape improvements {includes installation of
G1obe-Sty1e lighting fixtures and planting of trees around the landmark center

The Council of the City of Saint Pau1 having received the report of the Mayor
upon the above improvement, and having considered said report, hereby resolves:

That the said report and the same is hereby approved with no alternatives, and
that the estimated cost thereof is $70,000.00 financed by Sales Tax
Revitalization Grant $35,000.00 and Assessments $35,0OO.OQ.
That a public hearing be had on said improvement on the 24th day of September,
1997,at 4:30 o'clock P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall and Court
House Building in the City of Saint Paul.
That notice of said public hearing be given to the persons and in the manner
provided by the Charter, stating the time and place of hearing, the nature o£
the improvement and the total cost thereof as estimated.
