Whereas, the Departrnent of Pub{ic Works four years ago in'stiated a comprehensive program to
reduce the frequency and severity of vehicular coUisions, and;
Whereas, the Department of Pubiic Works since then has experienced a 40% reduction in vehicle
collisions, and;
Whereas, the Department of Public Works wishes to encourage safe driving habits, and;
Whereas, the Depastment has 71 employees who have been accident free for a period of five
years or longer, and;
Whereas, it is in our best interest to acknowledge excef{ent driving records, and;
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Department of Pubfic Works has authorization to purchase
71 Twenty five dollar dinner certificates to acknowledge those employees who have been accident
free for five years or more.

The Depariment has an ongoing comprehensive piogram which is supporied by division managers and the Safety Duectox. The program is
designed to reduce the severity and frequency of vehicu}ar coUisions and consists of the following: A training program whereby each yeaz
2Q% of aIl drivers are given classtoom instruction, behind the wheel instruction and critique of employee's dtiving; a review of all collisions
by a committee that 4atermines and recommends action to avoid future occuzrences including disciplinary measures; acknowledgment of
exemplazy dtiving records. Acknowledgment will be provided by written letter and by issuing the dinner certificate to each employee who
has maintained an accident free driving record for a period of five yeazs or more. The certificates aze ro be issued once each year.
