ACTION REQUESTED: Approval of expenditures for a one-day conference sponsored by PED on January 30, 1990. It is the most visible element to PED's commercial management organization strategy and a key element in marketing PED's small business services. It will cost about $5,077., of which $1,875 will come from registrations and be applied to hotel accommodations (food and beverages, since the space is free). The $1,900 for consultants will be paid from the consultant item in the NDD budget. The attached administrative order authorizes expenditures for this purpose, and the attached letter of confirmation from the hotel confirms our reservation. ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED: The 1989 conference grabbed the attention of neighborhood merchants and energized their business associations, iany of which have developed organizationally as a result. The 1990 conference is designed to build on that enthusiasm by offering neighborhood merchants practical tools they can apply in marketing and managing their commercial strips. It is intended to launch a new series of brochures and other publications designed to market PED's financing and technical assistance services to the small business community.
