WHEREAS, The Cammi.ssioner of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings has
reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the
existence of an emergency during the period from January 16 to 312
1956, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
1. Supervision, care and maintenance of public
parks and of their facilities.
2. Handling equipment, making repairs and special
arrangements for parks and playgrounds events.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
1. Many Winter Carnival events used park and playground
facilities. Wide World telecast from parks and
playgrounds. Constant temperature required at Como
Greenhouse and Zoo. Additional watchman services
needed because of increased activity.
2. Special wiring and plumbing repairs required for
speed skating races, Winter Carnival events and
Wide, Wide World telecast.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accord-
ance with the provisions of the Council's salary, ordinance,
Ordinance No. 6446#
