WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter the existence of an emergency during
the period from January 16 to 31, 1956, which rendered necessary the,
employment of certain employes of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers
Servicing municipal equipment
Inspecting jobs done for city by contractors
Completing payroll work
Overseeing inmates at workhouse
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and cir-
cumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city
streets free from snow and ice, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant
continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints at city yards,
completing plans for paving jobs, need for grade profiles and house,
numbers, completing payroll work, keeping city equipment in good
tanning condition, inspecting work done by contractors and over-
seeing inmates at workhouse.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees. who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 646.
