PAUL FouNCa NQ OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK COUNCIL R SO UTIO GENERAL FORM "� ' PRESENTED BY COMMISSIONER DATE WHEREAS, on the 3d day of April, 19 mighty God, in the exercise of His infinite wisdom, did call from this mortal fe the soap of Sumner P, Mpbman who died as the result of a tragic accident while he was carrying out his duties as a District Inspector of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Sanitary District; and WHEREAS, Sumner P. Cushman had long been an outstanding civic figure in the City of Saint Paul.. giving of his time and energy in many ways to add to the betterment of our City; and WHEREAS, especially he was most active in the cause of youth, of building and maintaining better playgrounds for the younger people, and in the field of interesting all youth in competitive sports, one of his main interests being directed toward the field of speed skating; and WHEREAS, he was president of the Midway Skating Club for four years and one of the prime movers in the organisation of the Eastern Ydanesota (Saint Paul) Speed Skating Association, of which group he was president at the time of his death; and WHEREAS, it was his original idea and the interest he displayed in it that brought into being the State Indoor meet for speed skating bold at Williams Arena and the Saint Paul Invitational Outdoor meet which later was changed into the Eagles Indoor Invitational which this year was made international in scope; and WHEREAS, included in his other accomplishments, Mr. Cushman was co- chairman of the 1956 National Outdoor Speed Skating Championships, a sports event outstanding in the nation; and WHEREAS, among his other civic concerns was the work carried on by the Eagles Club and at the time of his death was president of the Eagles Lodge Aerie fit©. 33; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Council of the Citr of Saint Paul, on behalf of all the people in this City does hereby make sincere acknowledgment of the work and accomplishments of the deceased directed toward the betterment of the City of Saint Paul; and be it COUNCILMEN Adopted by the Council 195— Yeas Nays Gibbons Halvorson Approved 195— Holland Marzitelli Tn Favor Mortinson Mayor Peterson Against Mr.President, Dillon 6M 6-55 2 - 11365 Duplicate to Printer CITY OF ST.
