WHEREAS, The Commissioner o lie Works has reported, in accordance with Sec-
tion 53 of the City Ch ie'r., the existence of an emergency during;_�the
period from March 16 to 31, 1956, which rendered necessary the employment
of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency strebt, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency ,garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans for grading 4E paving ,jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum-
stances
Necessity of answering all emergency repair cells, keeping
city streets free from snow & ice, keeping fires at Asphalt
Plant continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints
at City yards, completing plans & specifications for grading
& paving jobs, need for grade profiles, completing sidewalk
assessment, keeping city equipment on good running condition
and inspecting work done on city improvement projects.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers' are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Council"s Salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
