Ossanna, Secretary Gentlemen: Re: Falcon Heights Bus Line A plan to revise bus service in the Como Park area of St. Paul was presented to the Commission, as well as to the Department of Public Utilities of St. Paul, in August 1955. This plan was revised in several details at the suggestions of the Utilities staff. The inauguration of the plan was delayed because of the contemplated paving of W. Maryland Ave. between Rice St. and Dale St., which would have made it impossible to operate during the working period. This paving project is scheduled for completion about June 1st. We, therefore, ask your consideration of this plan in order that the change may be effected on June 16th. In brief, following parts comprise the general plan: 1. To turn the Rice-So. St. Paul line at Rice and Maryland and operate westerly on Maryland to Dale St., there joining with that portion of the Snelling-Dale line that continues on Dple St. and Grotto to Hoyt to Snelling to Falcon Heights, thus establishing thru service from the entire Como Park area direct to downtown St. Paul. 2. Continue operation of the Snelling portion of the Snelling-Dale line, exactly as now routed, between Hamlin and Hoyt and Montreal Ave. in the Highland Park district. 3. Continue the remaining portion of the Snelling-Dale line, between Dale and Maryland and Dale and Grand, as a crosstown line, operating only during the hours of 6 to 9:30 AM and 3 to 6:30 PM on weekdays. The number of persons using the Dale St. line between the above hours is exceedingly small, and of these, the majority originate in the Como Park area. These persons would now ride directly into the loop area over Rice St. instead of transferring from Dale St. 4. The North Snelling Shuttle line's primary function was to supply service to the Farmers Union Terminal at Larpenteur and Snelling Ave. In order to continue this service, it is proposed to extend 2 trips at 8 AM and two more at 4:30 PM for the daily workers now using this service. For the balance of the day, the area would be served by the new So St. Paul-Falcon Hts. line, thus providing better service than now scheduled.
