Gibbons Department of Public Utilities City of St. Paul, Minnesota Dear Sir: The St. Paul City Railway Company has requested authority from the Railroad and Warehouse Commission to revise bus service in the Como Park area of St. Paul by the consolidation of that section of the present Dale-Snelling line with the Rice Street line as explained in detail in the attached petition of the company. This revision of routing would furnish direct service to the loop area of St. Paul for the Como Park area as well as Falcon Heights. Its operation would involve the use of Maryland Street between Rice Street and Dale Street which is at present being paved, and consequently this operation could not commence until the completion of the paving later this summer. It is the ultimate plan when the railroad bridge at Rice and Ivy is repaired that one-half of the Rice Street service shall proceed north to Arlington and westerly on Arlington serving that rapidly developing area, the other half remaining on Maryland. Until this bridge is repaired this route revision will involve the elimination of the present service on the north three blocks of the Rice Street line. The combination of these two lines, particularly after the extension to Arlington, will constitute a distinct benefit in rendering loop service to that area. Upon this revision in route, the Snelling line will revert to a straight crosstown line only, and the company has also requested the elimination of midday service on the Dale Street line between Maryland and Grand Avenues, rush hour service to remain. Yours very truly, Edwin F. Jone- Utilities Engineer EFJ:ew 177851 II Original to City Clerk CITY OF ST. PAUL FI°E NCIL NO.
