WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks, playgrounds and Public Buildings has
reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the
existence of an emergency during the period from April 1 to 15,
1956, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Supervision, care, maintenance and protection of public
parks and playgrounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and •
circumstances:
Constant temperature required at Como Greenhouse and
Zoo. Unusual, seasonal requirements for protection of
public property, such as, opening of municipal golf
courses.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in
accordance with the provisions of the Council's salary ordinanea,
Ordinance No. 6146.

Gentlemen:
We, Robert E. and Mildred B. Sandberg, hereby request permission to
withdraw our appeal dated March 27th, 1956, for the establishment of
a building line on Lot 16, Hidden Park View, for the reason that since
filing the appeal, we have been advised that a building line is
established in the plat itself. In view of this development, we would
greatly appreciate a refund of the $20.00 filing fee paid to the city
on March 28th.
No public hearing has been set in this matter and no publication of
notice made.

Gentlemen:
A request herein is made for the establishment of a set-
back of the building line on Lot 16, Hidden Park View,.
St. Paul, Minnesota, on the West side of Cleveland Avenue
at the end of Norfolk Avenue between the Miss. River Blvd.
and Sheridan Avenue, in accordance with Section 20 of the
Zoning Ordinance. Our check to cover the fee for the
filing of this request is enclosed. Set back to be' foot 6 inches.
The City Clerk's office recommended that a consent
petition bearing the signatures of the property owners
and residents in the vicinity of Lot 16, Hidden Park View,
be entered with this request. The attached consent
petition bears the signatures of 100% of the property
owners within 200 feet of 1377 South Cleveland Avenue to
the front, the rear, and either side. We have had only
encouragement from our neighbors.
Without assurance that a building permit could be obtained,
we have not had a plan drawaby our builder though the nec-
essary financial arrangements have been made. Enclosed is
a picture of our home with an impression of the intended
improvement inked over it. Also enclosed is an impression
of the size of the existing house in relation to the size
of the lot. The plat plan of Hidden Park View will indi-
cate to you that our lot is less deep than the others in
our area. The attachd garage and driveway are immediately
adjacent to the area we wish to improve preventing addi-
tion to the side. We must improve to the front. We have
had professional opinion that this can be done in keeping
with the traditional. architecture of the house.
The existing kitchen, 8' x 10 ' and cut into by three doors
and a window, is not only undesirable but hazardous. Our
children are becoming young adults with the result that
small accidents with cupboard doors, hot oven, etc. are
increasing. Our intention is to make a breakfast room of
the existing area and a working kitchen of the proposed
addition, We intend this to be our home for many years (1)-
and are hopeful of haling this added comfort.

We will appreciate hearing from your office advising as
of the length of time needed for the consideration of
this request as we wish to advise our builder of same.
If this is not sufficient information for your consid-
eration, please advise as we are most anxious to comply
with any and all regulations. Thank you.
