WHEREAS, The Commissioner oiLfic Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City 1► ► . ter, the existence of an emergency during the
period from June 1 to 15, 1956, which rendered necessary the employment
of certain employes of the Department of Public Works for more than eight
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency Street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating motor equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans & specifications for grading jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles •
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
Completing payroll work
Overseeing inmates at workhouse
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum-
stances:
Necessity of answering all emergency calls, keeping city streets
free from debirs, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously,
picking up garbage, taking complaints, completing grading plans,
need for grade profiles, complding sidewalk assessments, keeping
city equipment in good running condition, inspecting local improver
went projects, completing payroll work and overseeing inmates at
workhouse.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to
pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions
of theCouncil's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
