WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from June 1st to June 15th 1956 inc., which
rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Water
Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per
week in doing the following work:
1 Repairing Filtration Plant eq,uipsnent.
2 Working extra shifts, various stations.
3 Finishing installation of, and repairing large gates, water
mains and service connections.
4 Pptting new Hazel Park pumping station into operations
5) Taking emergency calls at Storeyard.
6) Repairing shovel and tractor.
7) Taking country crew to and from work.
8 Reading gauges, various lakes and intakes.
AND WHEREASiithis emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
1 Necessary to do work during low consumption hours.
2 On account of heavy demand for water.
3 In order to keep continuous water service.
Necessary to continue working and to stand by until everything in order and
successful operation was assured.
5) Nights and Sundays.
7) On account of scattered work locations.
4) In order to have shovel and tractor in condition for next day's work.
8) Necessary to watch lake levels on account of critical water situation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby
authorimd to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance
with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance, Ordinance No. 61+46.
