WHEREAS, The.Commissioner of ° •r orks has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City
Charter, the existence of :d mergency during the period from Feb. 16 to 29, 1956, which
rendered necessary the emplayement of certain employees of the.Dept. of Public Works for
more than eight hours.per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plant & specifications for grading jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles, etc.
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting work done by outside contractors for city
Overseeing inmates at workhouse
Completing payroll work
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets free
from snow and ice, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, picking up
garbage, taking complaints at city yards, completing grading plans, need for
for grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment
in good running condition, inspecting work done by contractors for city,
supervising inmates at workhouse and completing payroll work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That) the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the
employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Councils
salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 61&h16.
