WHEREAS, The Commissioner o is Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the Cit , ter, the existence of an emergency during the
period from February 1 • 15, 1956, which rendered necessary the employ-
ment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than
eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repairs
Dispatching men for all emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans & specifications for grading jobs
Mimieographing grade profiles
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
Making up payroll
Overseeing Inmates at Workhouse
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum
stances:
Necessity of answering all emergency calls, keeping city streets free
from snow and ice, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, picking
up garbage, taking complaints at city yards, completing grading & paving
plans, need for grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments, keeping
city equipment in good running condition, inspeding work done by outside
forces, completing payroll work and overseeing inmates at Workhouse/
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to
pays the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council 's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
