10-453Cou�cil File # 10-453 Green Sheet # 3107896 Whereas, the City has already taken many steps toward making Saint Paul one of the greenest cities in the country, including hiring the CiTy's first sustainabiliry, water resources and energy coordinators; formally endorsing the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement; investing more than $1 million to reduce energy use in City buildings; adopting a Green Developmen[ Policy for New and Renovated Municipal Buildings; providing green building training and LEED accreditation for City staff; directing CiTy fleets to use biofuels, and adding hybrid vehicles to the City fleet; increasing recycling 13.5°!0 over the past five yeazs; incorporating innovative water quality and infiltration practices on all City road reconstruction projects; working with Xcel Energy, District Energy, City of Minneapolis & other pariners to develop fhe Energy I�novation Corridor along the Light Rail Line; and 29 Whereas, the City of Saint Pau] has long worked to proactively protect our air, water, and urban landscape; and 5 Whereas, Mayor Christopher B. Coleman and the Saint Paul CiTy Council are committed to making Saint Paul "The 6 Most Livable City in America" and a leader in sustainable urban living; and 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Whereas, the City initiated the Sustainable Saint Paul Awards to honor outstanding achievements of individuals, 17 businesses, and organizations that are protecting and restoring the environment of Saint Pau1; and 18 19 20 21 22 23 2G 25 26 27 Whereas, the awards pay tribute to individuals, businesses, and organizations that are demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship through ]eadership throughout Saint Paul and beyond; and Whereas, by sponsoring these awards, the City hopes to encourage all residents, businesses, community groups, and nonprofits in Saint Pau] to implement similar projects, such that replication of these efforts will further enhance the City's quality of life; now therefore be it Resolved, that the City of SainT Paul honors the outstanding dedicaTion of the employees, participants and volunteers for their environmental leadership in 2009.
