RESOLUTION WELCOMING THE ESTEEMED DELEGATION FROM NAGASAKI, JAPAN
AND REAFFIRMING THE PARTNERSHIP AND FRIENDSHIP
BETWEEN THE TWO CITIES
5 WHEREAS, the Cities of Saint Paul, Minnesota and Nagasaki, Japan, were on the courageous forefront of
6 Sister City Partnerships, and on December 7, 1955, became the first ever Sister City Partnership between a
7 U.S. and an Asian city; and,

9 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul - Nagasaki Sister City Committee was created to serve as a consultant for
10 business, govemment, cultural and educational agencies, while working to establish new links with and
11 support for programs involving both cities; and,
12
13 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul - Nagasaki Sister City affiliation has been commemorated by exchanges of
14 official gifts and delegations on important occasions, enriching the cultural heritage of both cities; and,

16 WHEREAS, the generosity and goodwill that are demonstrated by the long-standing relationships
17 established through the Saint Paul - Nagasaki Sister City relationship bring our two nations closer to the
18 realization of a peaceful world;

20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council warmly welcomes our
21 esteemed visitors from the great city of Nagaski, Japan led by the Honorable Mayor Tomihisa Taue; and;
22
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul reaffirms our commitment to this historic
24 partnership and friendship between the Cities of Saint Paul and Nagasaki.
