WHEREAS, The Commissioner of 117- Works has reported, in accordance with Section
• 53 of the City Charter, t. xistence of an emergency during the period from
January 1 to 15, 1956, whi. a rendered necessary the employment of certain
employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight hours per day
or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup }� �

And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstance!
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping
city streets free from snow and ice, keeping fires at Asphalt
Plant continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints at
city yards, completing plans for grading & paving Jobs, need
for grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments, inspecting
Jobs contracted out by the city, completing payroll work and
supervising inmates at workhouse and keeping city equipment in
good running condition.
TORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay
the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the
Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance Noe 6446.
