EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
The Honorable the Mayor and the
Council of the City of Saint Paul
Saint Paul, Minnesota
Gentlemen:
By Ordinance No. 2614, approved August 24, 1906, the American Hoist and
Derrick Company and Charles A. Stickney Company were granted the right
to construct and maintain tunnels and water pipes in certain streets and
alleys in the City of Saint Paul for a period of twenty-five years.
Subsequently American Hoist and Derrick Company bought out the Charles A.
Stickney Company. By Ordinance No. 7266, approved December 20, 1930,
Ordinance No. 2614 was amended by striking out the words "Charles A.
Stickney Company" wherever they appeared in the ordinance, and Sections 1
and 2 of the original ordinance were amended by striking out of said sections
the words "twenty-five years" and by inserting in lieu thereof, the words
"fifty years".
This tunnel permit will expire some time during the year 1956 and it is our
desire that the permit be again extended in conformity with the practice of
the Council. May we add that for many years the American Hoist and Derrick
Company has not been selling utilities of any kind to other patrons.
We therefore respectfully request the issuance of a new permit to maintain
the tunnels and pipes.
Respectfully yours,
10 ,i I i AMERICAN HOIST & DERRICK COMPANY
