1 WFIEREAS, the National League of Cities is hosting an Educarional Alignxnent for Young Children City
2 Roundtable Discussion in Washington DC on January 14-15 to advance local and national level work
3 around the important issue of aligning educational systems ta provide every child a chance to succeed in
4 school; and
6 WHEREAS, Vallay Varro, Education Director for the Mayor's Office, has been invited to participate in
7 this roundtable discussion in order to represent the Mayor's office and the work that is locally underway;
8 and
10 WHEREAS, the National League of Ciries has offered to pay for airfare and hotel expenses not to exceed
11 $750; and

13 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that attendance at this roundtahle by Ms. Varro wi11 have a positive
14 public purpose as it directly relates to her employment and will showcase efforts the Mayor's Office is
15 making in the area of education and learning; now, therefore, be it
16
17 RESOLVED, that the City thanks the National League of Ciriss for its generous gift of airfare and hotel in
18 order to attend this roundtable; and
19
20 FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City accepts the gift of the funds and appropriates them to the purpose of
21 payment of airfare and hotel for Vallay Varro to attend this roundtable.
