;craw WHEREAS, iehae . G 'bons, then and theretofore con-
tinuously since his birth, a resident of the City of Saint
Paul, then a member of Minnesota State Athletic Commission,
former City Clerk of said City and distinguished person in the
field of professional sports, particularly in professional
boxing, where he had attained and consistently merited all
during his career as a professional boxer, and thereafter
until his death, an international reputation for exceptionally
high aptitude and most commendable professional ethical stan-
dards throughout his career therein, on the 31st day of August,
1956, in his 70th year, was summoned from this life by Almighty
God, after his extensive, prominent and consistently meritorious
career in the field of professional sports, and in civic and
charitable fields wherein his efforts were ever directed to
the promotion of high social standards, justice and the security
of our constitutional form of government, and whereas his demise
has occasioned incalculable loss to the City of Saint Paul and
its inhabitants, and a great sense of deprivation and grief
to his surviving spouse and children, be it hereby
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Saint Paul,
on its own behalf and on behalf of the City of Saint Paul and
its inhabitants, hereby takes and records cognizance of the
aforesaid extensive, prominent and consistently meritorious
career of Michael J. Gibbons, in permanent attestation thereof,
extends sympathy and condolence to his bereaved surviving spouse
and children, and authorizes and directs the City Clerk to pro--
vide for the preparation of an engrossed copy of this resolution
and the delivery thereof to the surviving spouse of said Michael
J. Gibbons, decedent, with all convenient speed.
