f::  i°,
Working in partnership with a variety of organizations, the purpose of the Saint Paul
Public Library's Bookmobile is to ensure the mission, services and collections of the
Library are known by and accessible to communities that face barriers in using the
Library's fixed facilities.
The Bookmobile visits 45-to-50 sites on a regular basis in a two-week cycie. Sites served
by the Bookmobile fit into one of three categories:
o Housing Communities for Older and/or Disabled Adults
o"Second Shift" (After-School) Sites at Locations Accessible to Children and
Families
o Organizations Serving Children and Families
At alllocations served, the Bookmobile works with community partners to ensure the
site's population ( clientele consists mainly of those who face difficulties in accessing a
public library facility due to transportation, cultural, language or other barriers.
As space and time permit, Bookmobile customers are provided with the same level of
service one would find at a fixed library facility, including library card registration, loans
of a11 Cypes of materials, reserving materiais, programming, and receiving answers to
xefexenoe questions and requests for information. In 2009, the Bookxnobile began txial
use of a mobile Wi-Fi system that provides public Tnternet access via a"hot spo2" unit
located on the vehicle.
Because of parking considerations, the Bookmobile is unable to serve some care centers
in Saint Paul. Instead, these arganizations reoeive a quarterly deposit of materials
assembled by Bookmobile staff for residen2s' use.
Due to its visibiliry and mobility, the Boolanobile raises awareness and appreciation of
the Saint Paul Public Library among ali residents of the city by appearing at numerous
community festivals, events and parades.
