WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Pub c orks has reported, in accordance with Sec-
tion 53 of the City Charte , e existence of an emergency during the period
from July 1 to 15, 1956, wA h rendred necessary the employment of certain
employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight hours per
day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing grading & paving plans
Mimeographing grade profiles
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting local improvement jobs
Completing payroll work
Overseeing inmates at workhouse farm
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum-
Stances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city
streets free from debirs, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant contin-
uously, picking up garbage, taking complaints, need for grading
& paving plans and grade profiles, completing sidewalk assess-
ments, keeping city equipment in good running condition, inspect-
ing local improvement jobs, completing payroll work and overseeing
inmates at workhouse farm.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to
pay the employees who performed such duties in accordance with the provisions
of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
