caught onto by a couple of "your people," who wanted to know why I was there. I
exp�ained to them what t�e following papers show.
I was promised, at the neighbozhood meetiz�g before the Earl/iVIcl,ean �SV�'
project began, that if I agreed to the sewer project they were recozzaznending, that I
would not �e payitzg zzxore than $2,240.

work--$2,240--as supported in the attached Request for Sanitary Sezvice I2epair.
At the September 25, 2008, zneeting which was hald for the public to address
questions or concerrxs with representatives from the Department o£ Public Works
and Maz�agement Services of the Real �state Division, I expressed my concern
about zxay being able to afford the cost of the suggested sewer work. I spoke with a
Mr. Dan Haak and a few others who were present there. I infozx�ed them that I had
called the City of Saint Paul az�d had been told that my tree root problem was
considered "tight."'�'he people I spoke to at tkzat evening zneeting on September 2S,
2008, encouraged zne to take the opportune iizne to cepair the sewer while Mc7,ean
Avenue was torn up. I asked zf the cost could go hiaher than the $2,240. They
assured zn� that it would not.
As zt turned out, there was no pro6lezz� for my property when t�e street was dug up.
There were no visible tree foots at any point along the main; and, in fact, one of the
contractor's employees who dug arauzad my sewex Iine �ext to the sidewalk
showed me that the sewer had already been dug up and repaired sorrAe time ago (by
someone else). Unfartunately, I made the wroz�g decision, arzd the res�onsibility to
pay foz what I agreed to rests on zne.
However, I am askung that you not "dump" extra cost ozzto me for your overall
project. You said it would cost $2,240. Please keep your word. You caz� charge me
less, but piease don't charge tx�e moze, because I azn unemployed, and not by my
c�oice.
