WHEREAS, The Commissioner ,f ' dblic Works has reported in accordance with
Section 53 of the Cit, •arter, the existence of an emergency during the
period from December to 15, 1956, which rendered necessary the employ-
ment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more
than eight hours per day or forty hours per• week in doing the following
work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
orating equipment on emergency repair work
ergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Removing snow and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant continuously

And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and cir-
cumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city
streets free from snow, ice and debris, keeping fires at Asphalt
Plant on Sundays & holidays, picking up garbage, taking complaints
at city yards, completing plane for grading & paving jobs, need
fojr grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments, keeping city
equipment in good running edition, inspecting local improvement
projects, overseeing inmates at workhouse farm and completing pay
roll work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Councills salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 61446.
