WHEREAS, The Commissioner • •ublic Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the Ci Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from August 1 to 15, 1956, which rendered necessary the
employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency work
Removing debris from city streets
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking complaints at city yards
Drawing plans for grading $c paving jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalks assessments
Inspecting local improvement projects
Overseeing inmates at workhouse farm
Completing payroll work
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency calls, keeping city
streets free from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant
continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints, need
for grading & paving plans, need for grade profiles, com-
pleting sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in
good running condition, inspecting city improvement jobs,
overseeing inmates at workhouse farm and completing work
on payrolls.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
