Whereas, the Department of Public Works has initiated a comprehensive program to reduce the
frequency and severity of vehicular collisions, and;
Whereas, the Department of Public Works wishes to encourage safe driving habits, and;
Whereas, the Department has 101 employees who have been accident free for a period of five
years or longer, and;
Whereas, it is in our best interest to acknowledge excellent driving records, and;
Whereas, the Department has received incentive funds from the City's Risk Management Division
to acknowledge and promote safety among employees;
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Department of Public Works has authorization to purchase
101 Twenty five dollar dinner certificates to acknowledge those employees who have been accident
free for five years or more.

The Depar[ment has an ongoing comprehensive program which is supported by division managers and the SafeTy Director. The program is
designed to reduce the severity and frequency of vehiculaz collisions and consists of the following: A training program whereby each year
20% of all drivers aze given classroom instruction, behind the wheel instruction and criuque of employee's driving; a review of all collisions
by a committee that determines and recommends action to avoid future occurrences including disciplinazy measures; acknowledgment of
exemplary driving records. Acknowledgment will be provided by written letter and by issuing the dinner certificate to each employee who
has maintained an accident free drivine record for a neriod of five vears or more. The certificates aze to be issued once each veaz.

Approval of this awazd progzam will demonstrate a balanced approach to our overall program of improving driving safety and reducing
