WHEREAS. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Volunteer Serv�ces rece�ves ooer 50.000 �olunteer hours from 1,100 volunteers
equivalent ro 24 FTE in 2009 alone. Recogniaon of volun[eers and their accomplishments is essential each year to assist with
volunteer suppon and retention, and
WHERE9S, Como Park Zoo and Conservarory Volunteer Service's cecognition of volunteers and theu accomplishments, as
well as, acknowledgement of the volunteers and the volunteer's fanulies' successes and struggles assists with volunteer support
and retennon,and
WHEREA5, the successful facil�tation of a Volunteer Program and related expenditure have a clear pubhc purpose and benefit
as they contnbute to services at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory and their services result m budgetary savmgs; and
NOW. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Samt Paul City Council authorizes the Como Park Zoo and
Conservatory Volunteer Services departmen[ to purchase food items, flowers and cards for Volunteer recognition events,
funerals, extens�ve bospital stays and events need�ng support through greetmg cards in an amount not to exceed $4,000.00.

The City staff at Como Pazk Zoo and Conservatory work closely with volunteers to provide a welcoming atmosphere and valuable
programs to over t.9 mill�on visitors annually. At key times of the yeaz, there is a need to recognize and thank the 1,100 Volunteers at
Como for their support. Each year they provide over SQ000 hours of service for the City of Saint Paul at Como Pazk Zoo and
Conservatory. It �s necessar that we retain these loyal volunteers by recogniziog them at annual picnics and socials, through greeting
cards and m t�mes of personal struggles through flowers.
