WHEREAS, The Commissioner '00' Public Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the C1 'y Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from November 1 to 15, 1956, which rendered necessary the
employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
. Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris and snow from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup
Taking care of complaints at city yards

And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city
streets free from debris and snow, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant
continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints at city yards,
completing grading & paving plans, need for grade profiles, com-
pleting sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running
condition, inspecting local improvement jobs, overseeing inmates at
workhouse farm and completing payroll work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council' s salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
