duced to fo hours;±sne
WHEREAS, SUNDAY is generally regarded as a day of rest;
and
WHEREAS, in recent years the work-week of most employees
has been reduced to forty hours; and
WHEREAS, the operation of retail business establishments
on Sunday in most instances is unnecessary and violates the
time-honored principle that Sunday is a day of rest, forcing
employees to work on that day and for more than forty hours
a week; and
WHEREAS, the businesses which remain open on Sunday tend
to be of a very competitive nature; and
WHEREAS, this competition is not confined to the corporate
limits of any one municipality and the problem is not, therefore,
local in nature and cannot be solved by the adoption of a
local ordinance; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Ramsey County Delegation in the State
House of Representatives and the Ramsey County Delegation in
the State Senate are requested to submit to the 1957 Session
of the Minnesota State Legislature a resolution providing for
an interim study of the problem of Sunday restrictions as to
retail businesses and a study of legislation which may be
desirable.
