WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with
the provisions of Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an
emergency during the period from January 1 to 15, 1957, which rendered
necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of
Public Works for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week
in doing the following work:

Emergency street, buildig, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emer ency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicl s for all emergency work
Operating equipment on e ergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewe maintenance
Removing debris, snow& ce from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency garbage pickup

And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances: I
Necessity of answering 1 emergency repair calls, keeping city streets
free from snow, ice & de ris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously,
picking up garbage, taki complaints at city yards, completing grading &
paving plans, need for g ade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments,
keeping city equipment i good running condition, inspecting local im-
provement jobs and overs eing inmates ht workhouse farm.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such services in accordance with the
provisions of the Counci 's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 64+46.
