WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from December 16th to December 31st 1956 inc.
which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the
Water Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per
week in doing the following work:
(1) Working extra shifts at Purification Plant and at various
pumping stations.
3 1 Working extra shifts, Mississippi River Station.
( Finishing installation of, and repairing water mains and
service connections.
(4) Taking emergency calls at Storeyard.
5) Taking country crew to and from work.
6) Making'repairs to foundation of Hazel Park tank.
AND WHEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
(1) Illness and vacations of employees on regular shifts.
(2) On account of daily shut-down by Power Company.
(3) In order to give water and fire protection to consumers as
quickly as possible.
4) Nights and Sundays.
5) pn account of scattered work locations.
6) in order to speed repairs.
THEREFORE .iBE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby aut*orized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
