WHEREAS, Pierce Butler II, then and un nterruptedly since
his birth, a resident of the City of Saint Paul and then, and
for many years next prior thereto, an Attorney and Counsellor
at Law of exceptionally high learning, abilities, merit and
distinction, a practicioner in State and Federal Courts and a
member of Ramsey County, Minnesota State and American Bar
Associations, was, in his sixty-fifth year, on the 26th day of
March A. D. 1957, summoned from this life by Almighty God, in
culmination of his extraordinarily prominent, extensive and
meritorious career which embraced the profession of the Law
and civic and charitable fields of endeavor wherein his efforts
were constantly, zealously and effectivelyidir.cted to the
promotion of Justice, the security of the -Na.1tiones--Constitutional
Government, the alleviation of human stress and suffering and
the furtherance of the common good, wherein he had attained and
then possessed a deserved national reputation for highest ,
learning, abilities, ethics and accomplishments as scholar,
instructor, Counsellor and advocate in the field of Jurisprudence,
wherein he had served with honorable distinction as a Commis-
sioned Officer in the Army of the United States of America during
World War I, and wherein he had served, with preeminent zeal
and effect, voluntarily in the preparation, development and
prosecution to successful culmination, in respect of many major
public improvement programs and other public endeavors directed
to the promotion, protection and furttArpne of the public inter-
est and welfare, including among othea tote Second United
Improvement Council of the City of Saint Paul, for which he was
Chairman and in respect whereof he rendered in the furtherance
of the common weal preeminently successful service directed to
the planning of involved major public improvement projects and
the financing of the cost thereof, approximating $39,000,000.00,
by the preparation, presentation and approval of the pertinent
City of Saint Paul Bond Issues, and
WHEREAS, his demise has occasioned incalculable loss to
the City of Saint Paul and its inhabitants and a great sense of

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Pail,
in its own behalf and on behalf of the City cf Saint Paul and
its inhabitants, hereby takes and records cognizance of the
aforesaid extensive, prominent and consistently meritori us
career of said Pierce Butler II, in permanent attestatio
thereof, extends sympathy and condolence to his bereaved sur-
viving spouse and children, and authorizes and directs t
City Clerk to provide for the preparation of an engrossed copy
of this resolution and the delivery thereof to the survi ing
spouse of said Pierce Butler II, decedent, with all conv. nient
speed.
