Public Utilities has reported, in acco ce with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergen during the period from March 16th to March 31st 1957 inc., which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Water Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hour per week in doing the following work: il Repairing Filtration Plant equipment,and making connections lime slakers. Working shifts of men on regular shifts,off on account of illness, various stations. M Working extra shifts, Mississippi River Station. Finishing installation of, and repairing water mains and service connections. 5 Taking emergency calls at Storeyard. 6 Thawing culvert on 60" Pleasant Fake conduit. 7 Driving country crew to and from work. AND WEEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances: 1 In order to put equipment in use as quickly as possible. 2 Illness of employees on regular shifts. 3 On account of daily shut-down by Power Company. 4 In order to give consumers fire protection and water as quickly as possible. 6 Necessary to continue thawing until finished. 0 Nights and Sundays. 7 On account of scattered work locations. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby a horized to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
