under Preliminary Order 181296 approved January 31, 1957

A public hearing having been had upon the above improvement upon due notice, and the Council
having heard all persons, objections and recommendations relative thereto, and having fully considered
the same; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Council of the City of St. Paul that the precise nature, extent and kind of im-
provement to be made by the said City is. grade and surface with bituminous material the East-
and-West alley in Johnstone's Subdivision, from Arundel St. to Western Ave.e,i
and the Council hereby orders said improvement to be made.
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Commissioner of Public Works be and is hereby instructed and
directed to prepare plans and specifications for said improvement, and submit same to the Council for
approval; that upon said approval, the proper city officials are hereby authorized and directed to pro-
ceed with the making of said improvement in accordance therewith.

Gentlemen
I wish to oppose the grading and surfacing order No.
181296 and 181297 file No. 13640 as apr,lies to the North-
South alley between Blair and Van Buren. The LAVOPTIK Co.
Inc. owns the lot descrbed as 661 Western Ave. N. and has
41 feet on this North-South alley. We have no objection
to grading and oiling the East-West portion which is in
bad shape and should be fixed.
This North-South alley of only 83 feet clearance is
very seldom used. Occasional residents and delivery trucks
carefully drive into this portion of the alley. The
surface is well drained and hard enough for its present
limited use.
Strictly on the basis of use , the funds presently
allocated for this alley could be placed elsewhere to
better advantage of the citizens of St. Paul.

Gentlemen;
We are op^osed to the grading and surfacing of the North-South
alley in Johnstones Subdivision between the East-West alley off of Blair Ave.
Because it is vety seldom used, we never use this alley and to us it is just a
nuisance. This alley runs the lenght of. the East side of our lot.
ae are in favor of surfacing the East-West alley.

inous material the Fast and West alley in Johnstone's Sub, from Arundel St. to
Western Ave., and the North and South alley in Johnstone's Sub, from Blair Ave.
to Van Buren Ave.
and having investigated the matters and things referred to therein, hereby reports:
1. Said improvement is necessary and (or) desirable.
2. The estimated cost thereof is $ 3,793.87 , and the total cost thereof
