onorable Mayor and Commissioners:
It is with e feeling of regret that I today tender you my
resignation as City Purchasing Agent. As you may know, the
Minnesota State Senate has confirmed my appointment by Governor
Crvi.11 L. Freeman to become Commissioner of Veterans Affairs for
our State.
For many years I have been deeply interested in the problems and
welfare of the 435,000 Minnesotans who have served our Country
in the Armed Forces; for that reason, I readily accepted the
opportunity offered by Governor Freeman, to translate this interest
into full-time service to the State Administration and to I"innesota_
Veterans.
Put at the same time, the Department which I have administered for
nearly 3 years can give what I consider to be a good accounting
of its stewardship; we have purchased approximately „06,000,000.00
in goods and services in cooperation with your departments. In
all our efforts, we have attempted to serve the tax-payer and in
this new and challenging appointment, we shall make every effort to
serve the Veterans in the same spirit of service.
This resignation, effective April 1 is presented with
reluctance at leaving the City Government but with the knowledge
that our Department, is at a peak of efficiency for service to you
and to the Citizens. I wish to thank each of you for your assistance
and cooperation and I hope that my new assignment will be as pleasant
as my term in City Government has been.
Sincerely,
Lyle E. f-;invig
