Marzitelli- Whereas, recent advancements in electronic data processing equipment could conceivably produce substantial improvements in the every day oper- ations of City departments and rr..- WHEREAS, recent advancements in electronic data processing equipment could conceivably produce substantial improvements in the every day operations of City departments and could provide a means of obtaining data faster than methods presently employed to assist the City Council in executing its legislative or policy function, and WHEREAS, the duties and responsibilities of many departments might be accomplished more readily by the use of punch card tabulating equipment than is possible under present methods, and WHEREAS, savings accrued through the use of electronic data processing equipment could enable departments to provide additional and better services for the general welfare of the residents of the City of Saint Paul, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby request that the Mayor appoint a special committee, and that said committee be instructed to submit a preliminary report to the City Council as to the advisability and practicability of using electronic data processing equipment with specific reference to: 1) the tasks that can be performed and savings in material, manpower and money that might result; 2) an initial cost estimate for personnel and equipment required; and 3) a method of procedure for the integration of the data processing and tabulating operations of municipal departments to obtain maximum benefits in the use of punch card tabulating equipment.
