Holland— _ ---. -- - Resolved, That the proper city offi- cers are hereby authorized to pay certain employes in the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings for extra employment as described in the resolution. Adopted by the Council July 18, 1957. Approved July 18, 1957. (July 20, 1957) WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from July 1 to 15, 1957, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work: Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection of public parks and play- grounds and of their facilities. And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances: Seasonal requirements for protection of public property and pursuit of departmental activities, such as: Municipal golf, baseball and soft- ball; the many facilities for public picnics; the Zoo, Greenhouse and parks refectories; all of which have heavier patronage on week- ends and holidays. Also, emergency tree trimming for removal of wind and storm damage to boule- vard trees and to expedite operations for house mover. And, special programs requiring evening and week-end service.
