WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from July 1st to July 15th 1957 inc., which
rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the
Water Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hours
per week in doing the following work:
N 1 Repairing Filtration Plant equipment
2 Working extra shifts at Filtration Plant and various stations.
(3) Repairing large water mains.
(4) Finishing installation of, and repairing water mains, service
connections & hydrants.
5) Taking emergency calls at Storeyard.
6) Driving country crew to and from work.
(7) Removing bog from Rice Creek at Mississippi River conduit.
AND WHEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
(1) Necessary to do work during low consumption hours.
(2 Additional pumping necessary due to main breaks,and illness of
employees on regular shifts.
(3) Several large mains broke during the night.
(4) In order to give consumers water and fire protection as quickly
as possible.
(5) Nights and Sundays,
(6) On account of scattered work locations.
(7) Necessary to finish work as quickly as possible to provide for
heavy flow of water.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance, Ordinance N9. 6446.
