B. J. Schoch, M. D. ROBERT F. PETERSON, Commissioner Chief Health Officer JOHN C. FELDMANN, Deputy Commissioner September 17, 1957 Mr. Otto P. :imon Purchasing - :ent City of Sai.t Paul City Hall - .d Court House St. Paul 2, Minnesota Dear Mr. Si =n: As you recall, on April 15, 1957 at the inauguration of our poll. vaccination program to immunize against polio all childr from six months through high school, we had requested that the orders be placed without bids as the polio vaccine was in short supply and that the vaccine is manufactured by six biological houses in the United States. The price t. health departments (through arrangements with the United states Public Health Service) is uniform. there- fore, no ad - .tags will be gained in advertising for bids. Also that die to the shortness of supplies we of necessity have to obt- n the vaccine from anyone of those houses as it becomes =vailable and is released to each state based on populati.n. The or. ginal order for four thousand five hundred (4,500) vi Is requested in April, was only partially filled by .e Eli Lilly Company. It is, therefore, nec- essary that the additional supply be obtained from the various so.. ces as it becomes available for release in this terra try. We are now assured of seven hundred (700) vial= of vaccine allotted to this area which is available A, ough the Twin City Wholesale Drug Company. We sh= 1 appreciate it very much if you will author- ize the p' chase of this vaccine as per requisition num- ber 4903 which you now have in your possession, as our supply on hand is sufficient only for the remainder of this weeks use in our clinics, and no other vaccine is presently available in the Twin City area. The Twin City Drug Company promised to hold the vaccine for us for another few days and if not contracted for they will be obliged to send it out to other sources which will mean that St. Paul would not have any vaccine for use in our clinics for quite some time. . / Te ir 7 ■AL, C(1( ' ' icaggy -e-Pi--7-1- Chief Inspe tor R.
