WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with Section
53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from
September 1, 1957 to September 15, 1957 which rendered necessary the employment
of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight .
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair work
Dispatching men for emergency repair work

Emergency calls for sewer maintenance of Public Works for extra employment

Taking care of complaints at city yards

Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
Completing payroll work
And WHEREAS, This emergency a l ose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances :
Necessity of answering a 1 emergency repair calls, keeping city streets free
from debris, keeping firs at Asphalt Plant continuously, picking up garbage,
taking care of complaint- at city yards, completing plans & specifications
for grading & paving job- , need for grade profiles and house numbers, completing
sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition,
inspecting work done by 4ontractors on street & sidewalk work, and completing
payroll work.
THEREFORE BE ]T RESOLVED That she proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay
the employees who perfo red such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council ' s Salary ordinance, Ordinance No . 6446.
