WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from March 16 to March 31, 1958 which rendered necessary the
employement of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repairs
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Emergency calls at city yards

Mimeographing grade profiles Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay
Servicing municipal equipment certain employes in the Department
of Public Works for extra employment
Making up sidewalk assessments as described in the resolution.
Adopted by the Council April 1, 1958.
Inspecting city improvement jobs Approved April 1, 1958.
Completing payroll work (April 5, 1958)
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances :
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets
free from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, taking
complaints at city yards, completing plans for grading & paving, need
for grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments,keeping city equip-
ment in good running condition, inspecting work done by contractors on
streets & sidewalks and completing payroll work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council ' s salary ordinance, Ordinance No . 6446.
