Winkel January 31, 1958 COMMISSIONER DATE WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from January 16 to January 31, 1958 which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work: Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair Dispatching men for emergency repair work Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency repair work Operating equipment on emergency repair work Council File No. 186024—By Adrian P. Emergency calls for sewer maintenance Winkel— Resolved, That the proper city offi- Removing snow from city streets and sanding icy streets ces hereby authorized to cerrtain are employes in the Departme t Tending fire at Asphalt Plant on Sundays and holidays of Public Works for extra employment as described in the resolution. Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs (February 8, 1958) Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers Servicing municipal equipment Making up sidewalk assessments Inspecting city improvement jobs Completing payroll work And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances : Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets free from snow & ice, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, picking up garbage, taking complaints at City Yards, completing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs, need for grade profiles and house numbers, completing sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition, inspecting work done by contractors on street & sidewalk work, and completing payroll work. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the employees WID performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Council 's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
