Dear Sir:
This is in the matter of the application of the White Castle Systems Inc.
for a permit to enlarge an existing drive -in restaurant located on property
adjacent to the west side of Auditorium Street, between West Sixth and West
Seventh Streets: This property is described as except part taken for widen-
ing of West Seventh Street, that part of Lots 1,-.and 2 north of West Seventh
Street; also the north 100 feet of the east one -half of Lot 3, and the north
120 feet of the west one -half of Lot 3, all in Block 6, Rice and Irvine's
Addition to St. Paul. The zoning is commercial.
The applicant proposes to remove two two -story brick buildings, and expand
their present operation westerly. They will have a total parking capacity
for 34 cars. The property under consideration is irregular in shape, having
a frontage of 180 feet along West Sixth Street, 152.5 feet along West Seventh
Street and 32 feet along Auditorium Street.
Field investigation discloses no objection from the standpoint of adjacent
land use.., The Traffic Engineer has approved the proposed layout and operation.
The applicant's plans'call for two driveways from West Sixth Street, and one
driveway from West Seventh Street.
TheBoard of Zoning is of the opinion that with West Sixth Street one way,and
carrying -,a heavy volume of traffic, that a minimum of driveways with access
to it should be permitted. An examination of the applicant's plans shows
that their development would not be affected if they were limited to one drive
way on West Sixth Street.
In consideration of these factors, the Board of Zoning recommends that this
permit be granted, but that only one driveway be permitted on West. Sixth Street.
Sincerely,
l
