WHEREAS, A serious safety problem exists with respect to
school children crossing Trunk Highway No. 12 at Ruth Street,
and
WHEREAS, Verbal approval was recently granted by the
Minnesota Department of Highways for the purchase, installa-
tion, and operation by the City of Saint Paul of a temporary
school signal at said location, and
WHEREAS, Written confirmation of said Department of High-
ways approval has been requested, and
WHEREAS, The approaching advent of winter weather makes
it imperative that work on said signal proceed as quickly as
possible, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That upon receipt of said written authorization
from the Minnesota Commissioner of Highways, the Commissioner
of Public Wo'rks,, the Purchasing Agent, and other affected city
officials alr6, ereby authorized to proceed on an- emergency
basis, with informaa bids, to purchase, install, and operate
a temporary, electrically- operated school signal of the Eagle
Corporation type, or equal and approved, at a cost not to ex-
ceed $2,000..00, the`cost of said signal to b.e charged to Fund
PI R 3001, .51u_ b- Fund', L, 5972.
