WHEREAS, The Department of Public Works has receivad a$10,000 grant from the Minnesota
Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Unit for safety related expenditures, and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council accepted this grant on March 4, 2009 (Council File #09-241), and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works will use this grant towards the purchase of backup camera
systems for sight restricted work vehicles, which will be instailed on select work vehicles within the
department, and
WHEREAS, this grant requires a minimum grant match of $10,000 which will be funded through the
existing 2009 budget, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works anticipates the backup camera systems will reduce
accidents by 50%, and will aid in the reduction of workers compensation claims related to restricted sight
accidents on work veh'rcfes, and
WHEREAS, the 2009 budget needs to be amended to reflect the grant funds that will be received, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the City Charter, does certify that there are
available for appropriation funds of $10,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2009 budget, and
WHEREAS, The Mayor recommends thai the following additions be made to the 2009 budget:

Initiating Problem, Issues, Opportunity (Who, What, When, Where, Why):
The Department of Public Works has received a$1Q000 grant from the State of Minnesota for backup camera systems that will
improve visibility on restricted sighi vehicles. This grant was accepted by the Saint Paul City Council on Mazch 4, 2009 (Council File
#09-241). The grant requires a minimum match of $10,000 which will be funded through the exisdng 2009 budget The 2009 budget
needs to be amended ro reflect the grant funds received.
Advantages lf Approved:
Grant funding is needed to offset the cost of the camera systems. These camera sys[ems will reduce accidents by approximately 50%
and will aid in the reducUOn of worker s compensation claims that are related to restricted sight accidents on work vehicles.
